Not to be outdone...

by the book artists at CODEX, the Book Elves have been indulging recently in a rash — er, a "variety" — of artistic pursuits.

Their work has had some critics (the Trustees of the Smith College Museum of Art used the harsh word “vandalism” when they woke one morning to find their handsome building painted bright yellow and red in celebration of the Lunar New Year ("It's the Year of the Rooster," one Elf earnestly explained); then, too, the outfitting of the Paul Revere statue in Boston in a pink tutu, for no apparent (?) reason, was not without its controversy.

In recent weeks the Book Elves have focused on more traditional work, completing in time for the annual Winter Carnival a series of ice-sculpture portraits of the Northampton city councilors which were widely noted for their extreme realism… and complete anatomical correctness… and the intriguing and surprising things the sculptures appeared to be doing to each other…

But before they were summoned to City Hall for an emergency closed-door meeting (and thereafter dispatched to the Common with steam hoses), the Book Elves finished our latest list (because, if you can't do, catalogue!):
